Fieldscope

Fieldscope is an online platform for social-sector professionals to connect and collaborate on remote-work and on-demand opportunities.

I worked with them for two months to redesign their website with new branding and a refreshed vision.

Reinventing a Brand

Fieldscope's mission is to provide individuals and businesses with freelancers who provide a specific service. During the discovery phase of this project, I set out to analyze the overall UI/UX experience on Fieldscope and redesign how the user flows could be improved throughout the red-routes of the user journey. This meant a complete redesign focusing on consistency and standards throughout.

The client conducted user testing which resulted in an extensive report detailing the main areas they wanted to focus on for this redesign:

  • Project Page

  • Find a Provider

  • Add Provider

  • Details

  • Workspace

  • Contracts

Sketching

When I began sketching out the new layout for the website, I wanted to focus on the key areas that would affect the user most. These were pages all nested within the project itself from the client side. Originally named Project, Team, and Workspace I found that Details and My Team were more closely related to what the user would be accomplishing and also give a sense of camaraderie amongst the team they assign work to.

With a completed sketch prototype, the client was able to communicate some features that were quite confusing for the user. A second phase of sketches were done to address some user flow issues.

Wireframes

After going over my sketches with the client, I gathered feedback which I integrated into the Wireframing stage.

They wanted a more functional experience, especially in areas where the user spent the most time - like the 'Find a Provider' wireframe shown here.

The client had previously worked with a Graphic Designer to give their branding a fresh new look. I integrated the new color scheme, typography and logos to create a minimal, clean aesthetic for their website.

UI design

The UI Design was a very straightforward process once I had the wireframes completed. The overall goal was to make the user experience less confusing and I because I had addressed the user flow earlier,  now I could just focus on creating a new, fresh look for the site.

Learnings

There were some really great lessons that I learned during this project. Working with clients has always been my strong suit and it showed in my effective communication and ability to iterate on my designs through feedback.

I was able to work in a different way than I had before in that I drew designs based off a vision from the client. This was new to me but, I believe that the result was so great in the end due to the fact that I was able to effectively integrate the vision they had for the site while making sure that it was user friendly. In the end, I stayed true to my design thinking process and the way I flowed through the project - ending up with a final product that was more functional and visually pleasing.
